WHAT IS WEB?
The Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) program is a middle school transition program that welcomes incoming 6th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, students from 8th grade classes are trained to be WEB Leaders. As positive role models, WEB Leaders are mentors, motivators, leaders and teachers who guide the 6th graders to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to middle school and help facilitate 6th grade success. WEB provides the structure for 6th graders to receive support and guidance from 8th graders who have been through the challenges that middle school poses, and understand that the transition to a larger school can sometimes be overwhelming.
WEB begins with an interactive orientation that makes 6th graders excited and proud to be attending Las Flores Middle School and allows them to begin developing relationships and strategies that will contribute to their success at Las Flores Middle School.
After orientation, WEB continues, providing a variety of both Academic and Social Follow Up Activities throughout the year. Academic Follow Ups are lessons presented by trained WEB Leaders during visits to 6th grade classes; Social Follow Ups are events in which the 6th graders and WEB Leaders attend fun social events together.
